Hamburger Energiewerke Mobil (HEnW Mobil), a subsidiary of Hamburger Energiewerke, operates one of Germany's largest public charging networks with 2,200 publicly accessible charge points today. For ad-hoc charging at its charge points, HEnW Mobil is switching to the platform of software company OB7 GmbH, which won a public tender. OB7 provides a process that makes spontaneous charging noticeably easier.

Selected in a public tender, rollout since June 2026

OB7's solution convinced HEnW Mobil with a fit tailored precisely to Hamburg's charging infrastructure requirements. Ad-hoc charging runs in the browser, with no app requirement, and the user experience lowers barriers as far as possible. It was also decisive that brand and customer relationship remain fully with HEnW Mobil: the entire charging experience runs under its own name, and the technology partner is not visible to end users. Data protection matters too: the platform is GDPR-compliant, with operations and data staying in Europe. Everyday proof already comes from the deployment at Stadtwerke Stuttgart.

Florian Hartke, Managing Director of HEnW Mobil, says:

"OB7 convinced us in a comprehensive selection process, both technically and conceptually. That impression was confirmed in implementation: onboarding went smoothly and the system was ready for use quickly. What matters to us is that spontaneous charging is as easy as possible for customers. Through seamless integration into our systems, we offer a comfortable charging experience under the HEnW Mobil brand."

Since June 2026, rollout has proceeded step by step, starting at selected charge points. The ad-hoc charging process is now available at all HEnW Mobil charge points in Hamburg.

Charging without detours

The charging session starts directly at the charge point, without an extra app. A QR code on the charger opens the payment page, where the tariff can be viewed transparently before starting. Payment uses common methods such as Apple Pay or Google Pay, and the session begins within seconds. This is enabled by integration with eRound, the charge point management system (CPMS) of Hamburger Energienetze GmbH, through which HEnW Mobil's charge points are operated and monitored. Anyone who wants to charge spontaneously there only needs a smartphone.

Philip Müller, CEO of OB7 GmbH, says:

"Charging should be as natural as refuelling. That is exactly what we built our platform for. We are especially pleased to implement this together with HEnW Mobil on one of Germany's largest charging networks."

Technical implementation with OB7 white-label software

OB7 GmbH delivers the white-label platform behind the rollout. The Dortmund-based software company comes from the shared mobility sector and has brought experience from more than 80 million analysed trips into the platform. OB7 provides the EMP backend and the frontend that users see during charging. For this, OB7 connects to eRound. The link between both systems runs via OCPI, the open industry standard for data exchange between charge point operators and mobility service providers. First-level support is integrated directly into the platform via 11880 Solutions AG, with clearly defined responsibilities from payment questions through to refunds. If technical problems occur during charging, the system triggers an automatic refund. Externally, all of this appears under the HEnW Mobil brand.

OB7 also offers a broad feature set for charge point operators: from a white-label driver app for contract customers through individual tariffs and user groups to subscription models, dynamic pricing, and fleet and B2B functions.

HEnW Mobil's charging network keeps growing

HEnW Mobil is consistently expanding its public charging network in Hamburg. In 2025 alone, around 1.4 million charging sessions were recorded. By mid-2027, the network is set to grow to more than 2,700 charge points. The new ad-hoc charging process is part of that expansion. OB7 won the contract in the public tender.
